Image shows two Native Indian Women, one with a large basket on her head, the other with a Clay Jar balanced on her head and a small child on her hip.
Estate Find. Image is in pretty good condition. Captions are clear.
Appears to be full bookplate page from book. I believe the paper is Japan Vellum.
History of book images: 1905 from Edward S. Curtis, "The North American Indian". Published originally in 20 volumes between 1907 and 1930, limited to five hundred copies. These volumes contain a total of 1500 photographs which were printed on a variety of papers: tissue, japan, Holland, etc.
The photogravure offered here is an original print (not a reprint or reproduction) that was removed from one of the original bound volumes. I did not remove the print nor do I have the bound volume from which it came.
Wood Frame is old and shows it. Image has been protected under glass. From a non-smoking home.
