Description
1986 GMC Sierra
The third-generation C/K was introduced for the 1973 model year. Designated the "Rounded Line" generation by General Motors, the C/K grew in size inside and out. As pickup trucks increased in use as personal vehicles, cab features and options moved closer in line with GM sedans, (with power windows and power door locks becoming options). To further expand its practicality, a four-door crew cab body was introduced, (offering 6-passenger seating). While relatively straight-lined and boxy in appearance, leading to their "Square-body" nickname from the public the Rounded Line trucks were the first generation of the C/K to be designed with the use of computers and wind tunnels, optimizing the exterior shape for lower drag and improved fuel economy.
For consignment a third generation C/K line truck now in Prostreet garb. This short bed sports a 350ci V8 crate engine with a mere 6,200 consignor stated miles on it. Throw on a cowl hood, add in some wide 33x19.5 x15 rubber on back supported by shiny Weld Draglite wheels, a simplified grille and bathed in blood orange paint, and some tinted windows, and let's go show off a bit in a straight line, or just getting groceries...albeit fast!
Exterior
An all steel fleetside body which shows off rust free panels with nicely minded gaps covers this truck exterior. In front a simplified and effective front grille with horizontal chromed edged bars has the signal lights just behind this grille. Dual stacked rectangular headlights flank this new grille on either side and have a black field they sit within. Below is a nice shiny bumper. Looking up we note a new cowled hood with the scoop facing towards the windshield, trim-less fenders and original doors with a large chromed mirror hanging off of either door. Moving to the bed it is also all steel and has been lined with burnt orange body matching texture paint. Seen are enlarged rear tubs to accommodate the wide rear tires...smoke 'em if ya got 'em! The rear roll pan has been shaved of its original bumper and now a nicely sculpted thin panel pan melts seamlessly into the rear quarters and frames the tailgate just above. Weld Draglite wheels are also on the front and wrapped in thinner rubber.
Interior
A swing of the well appointed doors complete with power window and lock toggles, some tufted and stitched suede, a molded plastic tan armrest and storage pocket have some chrome delineations in these panels and gold carpeting below. Quite luxurious for a pro street, and I will not shake a stick at these amenities. Inside a broadcloth bench in tan tuck and roll with smooth darker tan vinyl bolsters stretches from door to door. A wood rimmed rally steering wheel fronts an original clean dash, now with a carbon fiber-esque plate trimming the background panel for the instruments. A/C is noted as is an aftermarket Kenwood AM/FM/CD player neatly mounted within the dash. Below the brown padded vinyl of the dash is a burnt orange panel for lower accenting. Off of this part hangs some aftermarket gauges which include a tachometer, oil PSI, and water temp. These float above nice clean gold carpeting. A molded plastic headliner is above and all weather seals are like new.
Drivetrain
A flip of the hood and we greet the heart(beat) of the matter, (and America!) with a 350ci V8 crate engine. This is fed by a 4-barrel carburetor and has a 4-speed 700R4 transmission on the back. Headers aid in the exhale, and cherry bomb mufflers let the world know you are on the move.
Undercarriage
A totally rust-free environment all buttoned up with a nice coating of black paint. The dual exhaust exits stage right and left just prior to the rear biggies. On the back, a 4 link with coil springs and a ladder bar setup can be seen, and upfront independent coil spring suspension is on. Power disc brakes are adorning the front, and power drums for the back.
Drive-Ability
This blood orange painted Pro Streeter does a very nice job of going in a straight line and does so with very little hesitancy. It also handles well and has a smooth cruise albeit a bit loud. The interior is very comfy, and the extra conveniences are worth their extra weight in gold (color!). A fine build, and certainly after blood...orange.
This customized short bed GMC is worth its weight in blood orange and the interior trimmings. Big bold rear tires give it some extra go, and the 350ci crate with 4 barrels is no slouch either! Just a beauteous job for the restoration/modification, all rust free and hot to trot. Sizzle, sizzle!
