c.1910 Old Mojave Indian In Rabbit Skin Photo Charles C Piece California Antique

Description

This is an original antique photograph of a Mojave Indian woman in rabbit skin blanket.  This photo measures about 5.5” x 8” and has a ink stamp on the verso of C.C. Pierce & Co. Photographers, 313 S. Spring St., Los Angeles, CA.  Also affixed on the back of the photo is a small typed slip that reads “Old Majave in rabbit skin”.
This photo is an original early 20th century antique.   Charles Chester Piece was a noted California photographer who established by the C.C. Pierce & Co. photography studio at 313 S. Spring Street in Los Angeles around 1900.   Piece moved several times during his long and prolific career as a Los Angeles based photographer and this photo with a back stamp showing his original studio address would be from early in his career.    Today a collection of over 10,000 photographs accumulated by Pierce during his lifetime are held by the Huntington Library and are considered “one of the most important collections of historical photographs of early California and Los Angeles extant.”  Overall condition is very good.  Email any questions.  Thanks for looking.
