    F.W. Glasier is best remembered for documenting circus life at the turn of the 20th Century.  It is most likely that this American Indian was "employed" and then put 'on display' as a circus curiosity since the real Hiawatha had lived centuries earlier. This is an amazing and unusual circus-related item and also a beautiful American Indian artifact and photograph.
