Just before the end of Apartheid in South Africa, Nelson Mandela, president of the African National Congress, & President of Cuba, Fidel Castro appeared together for the first time. In addition to commemorating the anniversary of the Cuban Revolution, Mandela was awarded the
Order of Jose Marti
medal, Cuba's highest honor.
This rare poster, a splendid tribute to a pair of men who changed the course of history, as well as an evocative reminder of the power of protest, was published by the
Cuba Information Project,
then directed by American activist Leslie Cagan. Ms. Cagan, who has long been a champion of Fidel Castro & an advocate for normalization of relations with Cuba, has also promoted the anti-war movement, the anti-nuclear movement, the LGBT rights movement, & the feminist movement,
Quite uncommon, this poignant & evocative item is not found in OCLC.
