Extremely rare factory center console for the 1968-1973 Datsun 510 SSS
As you can see from the photos, this console is in absolutely outstanding condition, especially considering its age. This console was originally offered via Datsun dealers as an option - it might have also been a standard item on the 1600 SSS version in Japan, but don't quote me on that.
This is an original factory part, not a reproduction. I believe this particular console was sent to me by my friend who used to run the Datsun 510 club in Japan, back in the early 90's. Either that or it came on a factory car which I bought used at some point (I owned 4 or 5 Datsun 510's over the years).
Anyway, I used this console for a few years back in the mid 1990's in one of my Datsun 510's and then removed it when I sold the car. After selling the car, I put this console in a storage bag and left it at my father's house when I moved out on my own. It's been in storage at my father's house ever since (for over 30 years). When my father died a few years ago, my little sister discovered it while cleaning out his house.
The console is in great condition. The arm cushion is free from any tears. The two metal rods and the hinge are all rust free. There is no tear out where the rods move in and out of the console (a common failure point as I remember). I did repair the closing button latch part at some point many years ago (installed a new plastic catch) and there is also a small area with two holes which was repaired with some black epoxy at one point along the way as well. The console includes the rubber shifter boot pictured. The original factory shift pattern plate is no longer present and was removed originally because I had a gearbox w/ a different than factory shift pattern in my 510.
